A Baltimore County police officer shot and wounded a man Monday morning after responding to reports of an armed person walking in the Parkville area, authorities said.
Investigators determined the weapon recovered from the armed person was a BB rifle that resembled a real firearm, according to police.
Officers were called around 8:05 a.m. to Putty Hill Avenue and Avondale Road for reports of an armed man, police said in a news release. Officers later found the man on White Marsh Boulevard, between Interstate 695 and Walther Boulevard.
During the encounter, one officer fired a patrol rifle, hitting the man, police said. The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers or bystanders were injured.
The officer that fired was wearing a body-camera and has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.
Police said that the Independent Investigations Division was consulted, and the Baltimore County Police Department’s homicide unit is handling the investigation.
