A 16-year-old Parkville High School student is being charged as an adult after an officer found an unloaded firearm in his backpack, county police said.
At 11:30 a.m. Friday, the student ran from administrators after they tried to search his bag, police said.
As the student left the school, police said administrators reported seeing the handle of what appeared to be a handgun.
A school resource officer took him into custody and later located an unloaded firearm that had been discarded.
After a secondary search, police said they found a discarded magazine. The student is currently charged with a handgun violation, police said.
