Towson and Morgan State universities were two of several schools around the country that received bomb threats on Tuesday, according to police and media reports.
The incidents at Towson and Morgan State began late Tuesday morning and lasted until the all-clear announcements were made later in the afternoon, school officials said.
The Towson threat was aimed at the Student Union and was received at approximately 11:26 a.m., campus police said. Morgan State received a report that a bomb was located in Richardson Library, which did not reopen until about 3 p.m. No devices were found in either case.
Bomb threats were also reported at the University of Delaware, Delaware State University, Nazareth University and Rochester Institute of Technology in New York, Prairie View A&M University and Lone Star College-University Park in Texas, and campuses in Michigan and Alabama, according to media reports.
“Our Towson University Police Department worked in collaboration with the Baltimore County Police and Fire Departments, among others, to secure and sweep the building. An all-clear message was issued just before 1 p.m.,” TU President Mark Ginsberg said in a statement released to students, faculty and staff at the school. “I commend our campus safety team and local first responders for their swift and thorough response to this incident and their efforts to assure the safety of our university community.”
Ginsberg also said Towson was notified that the bomb threat it received was not an isolated event. He said other bomb threats were reported in the Mid-Atlantic region and around the country.
