BELTSVILLE, (M.D.), Nov. 5, 2024 —As America votes for their forty-seventh President, an issue that has made it to the ballot measures in several states is reproductive rights. Maryland is one of these states.

For months, pro-choice and pro-life groups have campaigned for their side.

Pro-life groups are using the way that the question is worded to push for a “no” vote.  The ballot question does not use the word abortion. It instead states that this amendment “confirms an individual’s fundamental right to reproductive freedom.”

Outside Calverton Elementary School, a voting site in Beltsville, Md there were two people passing out “vote no” pamphlets about question one.

On the other side of the lawn at Calverton Elementary there were two women who were looking at them in a discouraginly.

“I believe whatever the outcome is, this election will change the community in such a drastic way”, said Michael Danso a 22-year-old second-time voter. “If abortion is banned, so many families will be changed forever. So many women will be forced to live a life that they didn’t choose but that was chosen for them.”

Some voters said they will wait and see how each candidate would approach the issue in future.

“I’m interested in how the candidates will go about abortion laws. It will be interesting to see what truly happens, said Bryant Thomas, a 23-year-old second-time voter.

If this ballot measure passes, Marylanders will usher in a new era of reproductive rights and the future of our state.
