Two first-time young voters in Baltimore dismiss Trump and Project 2025

On November 5, 2024, the people will cast their votes for the 47th President of the United States. However, the Republican candidate, Donald Trump, has lost some first-time voters in the Baltimore area.

Morgan State University students Breanna Summers and Kaylah Jean believe that Trump’s connection to Project 2025 and its controversial policies are a deal breaker for their support. Many of the proposed policies are alarming and causing first-time voters to shun away from Trump. Summers states, “Cutting off the Education Department, abortion rights, LGBTQIA+, and social security, and that is something I can’t support.” In addition, Summers admits she has not donated to a presidential candidate. Other first-time voters have not felt this urge to donate either. Morgan State student Kaylah Jean, 21, has not donated to either campaign. Jean also cites Project 2025 as a reason she will not vote for Trump. Jean states, “I do not agree with anything on it. I do not think people understand how crazy the policies they want to implement are.” Jean also discusses the current political climate, “The current political climate is hostile, people are constantly arguing…Kamala [Harris] is more than qualified; however, Trump is not. I do not believe felons should be able to run for president.”

Summers and Jean are two students in the Baltimore area. However, both shared that many in their social circles believe similarly and are turned off by the hostile political climate, especially Trump’s link to Project 2025.
