Baltimore County Executive Johnny “O” Olszewski launched his run for Congress on January 30th, according to his YouTube channel. Olszewski, a Baltimore County native, shared the news through a short video, sharing his excitement and plans to run for Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District.

The current County Executive has been in office for the past five years and now has plans to add to his political resume as he runs for Congress. “As county executive, we’ve led transformative change, instilling the values of equity, sustainability, and accountability in all we do,” Olszewski said in the video. Although it’s only been two weeks since his long-awaited announcement, he has already gained a mountain of support from other political figures in Maryland.

Endorsements are plentiful, according to Johnny “O’s” campaign website, one of them being Maryland State Senator Corey McCray. “I watched him shine in the House of Delegates, and I’ve enjoyed watching his journey. He was always consistent. He’s been battled tested and has always shown a lot of courage.” said Senator McCray.

The Maryland State Senator, who worked closely with Olszewski, also added, “He wants everyone’s voice to have the ability to be heard and represented.” The senator endorsed him, sharing that he knows Olszewski values “public safety and youth education.” Write a sentence on what he has agenda on public safety is. Keeping the 2024 primaries in mind, the younger generation will play a key role in Baltimore politics. Emma Lerch, 20, of Phoenix, shared her thoughts on Baltimore’s political climate and her hopes for the future. “I am looking forward to being able to vote this year in the primaries. As a young adult in Baltimore Country, restoration, community health, and growth is what is most important to me,” said Lerch.

Johnny “O” has already built a strong Instagram presence for his campaign, posting from the account @johnnyolsezewskijr. Lerch finds this helpful with college students like herself. “I try to follow Baltimore County’s political news, but social media is making that much easier for me. I think Johnny O’s Instagram is a great way for young voters, like myself, to familiarize themselves with what is happening in Baltimore County.” Lerch shared.
