Gov. Larry Hogan announced on Wednesday that he is offering a $100,000 reward for information pertaining to the murder of a 69-year-old Baltimore woman.

Hogan announced the reward after Evelyn Player was found dead inside a Baltimore church. He condemned the violence in Baltimore and said that action was necessary for the city to begin to heal.

“We are calling on the city to use any resources at its disposal to match this reward,” Hogan said. “This heartbreaking violence is tearing the city apart. Enough is enough. We need immediate action.”

Player was found stabbed to death in the bathroom of a church in East Baltimore. She was found by a church employee in the early morning on Tuesday morning.

Gubernatorial candidate Kelly Schulz said via Facebook that the incident was heartbreaking and that more action by law enforcement is necessary to clean up violent crime in Baltimore.

“We need to be serious about confronting this issue to ensure our communities are safe,” Schulz said. “Governor Hogan is right; we must remove repeat violent offenders from our streets. We need prosecutors in jurisdictions across the state who will actually prosecute violent criminals, not political actors more concerned with the next election.”

Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said during a press conference that he will not be changing his strategy for fighting crime in the city despite the amount of violent crime that has occurred this year.

“We are going to find who killed this woman, we are going to go out and hold that person accountable,” Scott said. “We are going to hold people accountable, but we also need to have some sort of intelligence in understanding an event like this is not something the police can solely prevent.”
