Baltimore County police officers will wear a memorial ribbon bar on their uniforms or a mourning band on their badges on Sunday to remember a fellow officer who was killed in the line of duty 35 years ago.
Officer Robert Zimmerman, 46, stopped to conduct a business check on Edmonson Avenue on Nov. 5, 1986, when he was struck by two vehicles and died nine days later from his injuries.
Zimmerman was an 18-year veteran with the Baltimore County Police Department and was part of the Western Traffic Unit.
Zimmerman was named Officer of the Year by the Catonsville Optimist Club and received five departmental citations during his career.
Zimmerman’s name is inscribed on a monument at Patriot Plaza along with other officers who died while on duty.
