UPDATE: The suspect who allegedly assaulted a Baltimore County police officer and fled to the Towson University campus has been apprehended, the university reported.

No further details have been provided yet.

Original Report: Students, faculty and staff at Towson University have been asked to shelter in place this evening while police investigate a possible armed suspect on campus.

Towson’s campus police said the suspect was initially spotted on the west side of campus, but later notifications from the university said the suspect appears to have left the area.

The incident began at about 5:50 p.m. when Baltimore County police made a traffic stop on Towsontown Boulevard. Police said the suspect assaulted a county officer and fled on foot.

Police said the suspect was “possibly armed.”

This is the second incident involving a gun on campus in the past two months. Three people were injured earlier in the semester when a person not associated with Towson allegedly fired three shots during a gathering at Freedom Square on the TU campus. The suspect, who injured himself with the gun, was later arrested.
