The state is providing $3 million to help organizations and religious institutions fight against hate crimes, the governor’s office announced this week.
The state’s Protecting Against Hate Crimes (PAHC) program awarded the money to organizations based on Maryland State Police data as well as an application process. The $3 million was given to over 30 organizations.
This money will be used to help fund equipment, personnel and physical security enhancements.
“Hate, bigotry or racism of any kind is un-American, unacceptable, and wrong,” Gov. Larry Hogan said in a statement. “This funding will be used to prevent future hate-fueled attacks and help us send a clear message that we stand shoulder to shoulder against all forms of discrimination.”
