A Baltimore man was arrested Friday on murder charges for allegedly shooting a woman to death on April 19, city police said.

Daya Jones, 44, of 5900 block of Gwynn Oak Avenue was charged with first-degree murder after authorities said he confessed to the crime, police said. He is being held without bail at Central Booking.

Police said the arrest was made by members of the warrant task force in the 7900 block of Pulaski Highway.

According to police, the incident occurred at 4:30 a.m. April 19 in the 700 block of Woodbourne Avenue, where officers found 27-year-old Nikea Jackson with gunshot wounds. Jackson was transported to Sinai Hospital, where she died shortly after arriving, police said.

Prior to Jackson’s death officers were able to get information that led to the identification and arrest warrant for Jones, police said. Jones was interviewed and gave a full confession, police said.
