Gov. Larry Hogan said statistics show that 80% of Marylanders age 65 and older and 50% of those 18 and older have received a COVID-19 vaccination.

Maryland currently ranks 13th in the nation for distributing vaccines and averages 69,872 shots per day. Hogan said the state of Maryland has administered 3.6 million vaccinations.

Hogan said that Maryland’s progress in vaccinating its population comes after the government’s “ramp-up” of vaccine distribution and the establishment of a “Vaccine Equity Task Force.” Just months ago, eligible adults were unable to find vaccines or had to wait in front of their computer for hours to sign up.

Also questions of racial and financial disparities among those receiving the vaccines were gaining national attention.

The one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine has been halted in the state because of concerns of a rare form of blood-clotting possibly associated with the dosage.  As a result, all Maryland providers are administering Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, he said.
