A 48-year-old local man was charged with first-degree murder after he supposedly confessed to beating and stabbing his mother, city police said.

Mumwaldi Kearney is being held at Central Booking without bail in connection with the case, police said.

Kearney’s mother, who was identified as 68-year-old Shari Smith, was found stabbed to death in her Baltimore home earlier this week, police said.

According to police, a patrol officer learned on Monday that there was a deceased woman inside of a home in the 4400 block of Manorview Road.

When officers arrived at the residence, they said they found Smith with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
