Mayor Brandon M. Scott on Tuesday swore in and officially appointed Christopher J. Shorter as the first-ever city administrator of Baltimore.

The City Council confirmed Shorter last week. Since January, Shorter has served as acting city administrator in the Scott administration. As a city administrator, Shorter will oversee city agencies and ensure that Baltimore’s day-to-day operations are effective and reliable.

“Over the last few months, Chris Shorter has been dedicated to effectively, reliably, and equitably delivering services to Baltimore residents,” Scott said.

Shorter has worked in several city governments jobs. He was one of four city managers in Austin, Texas, directing health, environmental and cultural services since 2019. Before that, he worked in Washington, D.C. for 10 years in a host of municipal agencies, including youth rehabilitation services, the health department and public works.

Congratulations Chris Shorter. I sure hope you can improve the way our city agencies are run. Maintaining our city’s day to day operations is something that needs your utmost attention. As a city resident, I welcome this position under Mayor Scott’s administration. Wishing you much success!
