Mayor Brandon M. Scott on Tuesday swore in and officially appointed Christopher J. Shorter as the first-ever city administrator of Baltimore.
The City Council confirmed Shorter last week. Since January, Shorter has served as acting city administrator in the Scott administration. As a city administrator, Shorter will oversee city agencies and ensure that Baltimore’s day-to-day operations are effective and reliable.
“Over the last few months, Chris Shorter has been dedicated to effectively, reliably, and equitably delivering services to Baltimore residents,” Scott said.
Shorter has worked in several city governments jobs. He was one of four city managers in Austin, Texas, directing health, environmental and cultural services since 2019. Before that, he worked in Washington, D.C. for 10 years in a host of municipal agencies, including youth rehabilitation services, the health department and public works.
