Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced on Tuesday that he has selected Cal Harris as his  communications director.

“Cal Harris understands cities and is passionate about executing strategies to engage the people and places most often overlooked in democracy,” Scott said. “He is committed to building an accessible and responsive city government that reflects the plight of everyday Baltimore residents, and I look forward to his perspective and expertise in my administration.”

Harris is a former senior associate in SKDKnickerbocker’s Washington, D.C. office. He graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta and the Heller School of Public Policy at Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. Harris advised several Black mayors across the nation on messaging, storytelling, and communications strategy as a principal at Pine Street Strategies. He is most known for creating the narratives that led to historic mayoral wins for Randall Woodfin in  Birmingham, Ala. and Frank Scott, Jr. in Little Rock, Ark.

“Navigating the tough challenges ahead requires transparency and clear communication, and I am honored to fulfill this responsibility for Baltimore residents,” Harris said

Harris will lead the mayor’s communications team that consists of  Stefanie Mavronis, deputy communications director, and Sydney Burns, press secretary.
