Gov. Larry Hogan marked Friday as the Lunar New Year through a proclamation.
He said he issued the proclamation as a milestone to commemorate the Year of the Ox and to highlight the achievements of Asians Americans.
“Words are not enough to describe the sacrifice the first generation of Asian Americans made,” Hogan said. “During a time of unprecedented challenges due to COVID-19, you saved lives, served neighbors, and donated more than half a million units of PPE for healthcare professionals on the frontlines.”
The Asian-American population in Maryland is an estimated 400,000. 2021 is marked as the 4,719th Lunar year.
