The launch of the Asian-American/Pacific Islander workgroup will be announced by Howard County Executive Calvin Ball at the Maryland Innovation Center in Colombia on Thursday at 11 a.m.

Yolanda Sonnier, the county’s Office of Human Rights administrator, will be joining Ball for the workgroup’s introduction along with workgroup members Michael Zhao, Samiyah Hira, and Soo Park.

The purpose of the AAPI workgroup is to consider and discuss policy initiatives from the county that impact the Asian American community.

“We have a responsibility to ensure that all our residents feel safe, respected and treated with the dignity that we all deserve,” Ball said. “Today we’re taking an important step towards a more inclusive community by launching our AAPI Workgroup.”

Last fall Howard County announced the La Alianza Latina Workgroup Alliance, and the announcement of an Asian-American/Pacific Islander workgroup is the county’s next step.
