Members of the Baltimore County Police Department will wear a memorial ribbon or mourning bands this Sunday in memory of a fallen officer.
Sgt. Bruce Prothero was killed on Feb. 7, 2000, while working off-duty as a security guard at a Pikesville jewelry store.
According to police, Prothero, who worked in the department for 13 years, was shot in the store parking lot after pursuing four armed suspects who stole from the store.
The suspects fled in a getaway car. Police arrested two of the suspects within days of the shooting and the other two were apprehended two weeks later in Philadelphia. All four suspects were found guilty and sentenced to life in prison, police said.
