Maryland reported 771 new COVID-19 cases, 33 new hospitalizations, and 8 confirmed deaths as of today, according to the state Department of Health.

Total coronavirus cases in Maryland have now reached over 147,000 with over 40,000 of those being in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

The uptick in cases over the past week led to Gov. Larry Hogan’s decision on Friday to reinstate a state of emergency in Maryland. He is asking for Maryland residents to remain vigilant to stave off the coronavirus.

“This crisis is far from over, and this virus does not recognize state borders,” Hogan said. “I want to remind Marylanders that the only way to keep our state open for business is to avoid traveling to hotspots and continue following the public health guidelines.”

Hogan joined other governors on a conference call with the White House Coronavirus Task Force and other leading health personnel, including Dr. Anthony Fauci. The topics discussed included COVID-19 recovery efforts and vaccine development and distribution.

For those who wish to view COVID-19 statistics in Maryland, they may visit the Maryland Department of Health’s website.
