The 2020 Governor’s Victim Assistance awards were announced Wednesday for those who went beyond expectations in helping victims of crime in Maryland.

“Now more than ever, our administration remains committed to connecting victims of crime to the resources they need, and ensuring they are treated with dignity and respect,” Gov. Larry Hogan said in a congratulatory video.

The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services and the Maryland State Board of Victim Services selected the awardees. The office continues to build on its three-pronged crime reduction strategy, which is to support and enhance law enforcement, prevention, and victim services efforts, officials said.

Three awards were presented. The Virginia Mahoney award was presented posthumously to Cornelius Scott. The Henry Gleim Memorial Award was presented to the Maryland Chesapeake Bay Region Bikers Against Child Abuse, and the Vincent Roper Memorial Award was presented to the Homicide Survivor Advocacy Program at Roberta’s House.

“On behalf of a grateful state, I want to commend the individuals and organizations who help us fulfill our responsibility to create a safer Maryland,” said Hogan.
