Driver dies in Avondale Road crash

A 92-year-old man was killed in Carney early Thursday when a 2011 Nissan Versa struck a curb, ran into a street sign and smashed into a BGE pole.

Police said Mahmoud Abdel Karim Abbasi of the 9300 block of Thornwood Drive was driving north on Avondale Road when he apparently lost control. The pole broke and landed on the roof of a 2018 Isuzu box truck, which also was traveling on Avondale road.

Abbasi was pronounced dead upon arrival to Franklin Square Hospital. There were no injuries reported from the driver of the box truck.

The Baltimore County Crash Team was investigating the fatal crash to determine the cause,
