A $3.4 million grant will be split between the Maryland Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs and local projects that support crime reduction within the state, the governor’s office announced Wednesday.
The Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services will use their share of the money awarded by the Edward J. Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant to develop its crime reduction strategy.
This strategy will help build a stronger support system for crime victims, aid in decreasing negative childhood experiences within youth populations, and support efforts to target harmful organizations, Gov. Larry Hogan said.
Funding awarded to the Maryland Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs will be put towards expanding virtual and mobile programming, club locations, and youth development programs. This expansion is geared towards creating a stronger link between young people and law enforcement members who are active in their community, Hogan said.
All other BJAG funding will be given to government agencies, Hogan said.
