The Maryland Department of Labor granted $2.8 million to businesses and organizations in the state to help them design and develop new apprenticeship programs, the governor’s office announced Tuesday.
This is the third federal expansion grant that Labor has obtained for Maryland, Gov. Larry Hogan said.
Labor used $1.75 million of its State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant to construct the Apprenticeship Innovation Fund 2.0. Funding from the AIF was distributed to eight businesses and organizations, which will each enlist 100 new apprentices or more, Hogan said.
Labor has also used $700,000 of its State Apprenticeship Expansion Grant to create a Related Instruction Reimbursement Program. The program will balance out the cost of registering new apprentices for employers by refunding the cost of instruction, Hogan said.
