Local Democrats criticize Trump’s behavior on COVID-19

Democratic Party officials in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia criticized President Trump today, saying his reckless behavior has led to the spread of the coronavirus.

The statement comes after several White House aides and senators contracted the virus, possibly from an event last month in which crowds of supporters attended a ceremony to meet Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.

The Democrats also criticized Trump for his behavior yesterday, when he removed his mask while standing on the Truman Balcony of the White House shortly after returning from Walter Reed Hospital, where he was treated over the weekend for COVID-19.

“By defying every CDC recommendation, Donald Trump’s selfish and reckless behavior has put the lives of these workers and everyone in their communities at risk,” the Democratic chairs of the three jurisdictions said in a statement.  “Donald Trump’s return to the White House and clear disregard for those around him is a stark reminder of how he failed to take any responsibility for the COVID-19 pandemic or the 210,000 Americans who have lost their lives.”
