A 37-year-old man was arrested Friday for allegedly stealing a car that he later crashed into a Baltimore County police vehicle, authorities said.

The suspect’s name was not released pending formal charges, police said.

According to police, the man carjacked a Chevrolet Equinox at about 4:12 p.m. in the 9200 block of Oswald Way in Rosedale. Police said the victim had just sat in the driver seat when the suspect entered the vehicle through the rear passenger door and ordered the victim to get out. The victim was not injured during the incident.

The man then drove the car toward Philadelphia Road before losing control of the vehicle while turning onto Martin Boulevard from Transverse Avenue in Middle River at 4:18 p.m. and crashing into the right side of an Essex Precinct market patrol car that was stopped at the intersection, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody and treated for minor injuries at a local hospital, police said. They said the officer in the patrol car was also treated for minor injuries at a local hospital. No other parties were injured.
