Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed a Junior League of Annapolis official to the Maryland House of Delegates.
Dana Jones, who works as the communications vice president for the voluntarism nonprofit group, will replace Del. Alice Cain for the District 30A seat that includes the greater Annapolis area. Cain resigned from her position a month ago because of family issues.
“I am confident that Ms. Jones will be a strong advocate for her constituents in Anne Arundel in her new role as state delegate,” Hogan said. “I offer her my sincere congratulations and look forward to having the opportunity to work with her to change Maryland for the better.”
Jones previously served as a legislative aide for U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin. Also, she worked as the research director for Emily’s List, a political action group that looks to get Democratic women elected to office.
The new Maryland delegate won her nomination in a marathon meeting that took place over zoom last Thursday. Officials said 19 candidates interviewed for the position. Seven of the 12 voting members for the Democratic Central Committee voted in support of Jones.
A native of Allegany County, Jones attended Fort Hill High School in Cumberland and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Towson University. At Towson, she was part of the College Democrats group.
Jones’ mother served on the Democratic Central Committee of Allegany County for 18 years. Her father is president of the American Postal Workers Union, Local 513.
