Homicide detectives on Thursday arrested a 56-year-old man in connection with the death of a 76-year-old woman in the 5500 block of The Alameda.

Detectives arrested Roderick Griffin and charged him with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault and false imprisonment, police said.

Police speculated that Griffin was the boyfriend of 76-year-old Lillian Herndon and allegedly killed her on April 10 after an argument. A missing person report had been filed. The Northern District officers arrived at the home in the 5500 block of The Alameda around 5:05 p.m. Tuesday as part of the report.

Police located the body of Herndon who was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy found that Herndon’s death was due to asphyxiation. The death was a homicide, police said.

Griffin was taken to Central Booking Intake Facility.
