A 24-year-old Virginia man involved in a two-vehicle crash on Peninsula Expressway died Thursday, Baltimore County Police said.

Scout Nelson Custer of the 300 block of Dye Plant Road in Martinsville, Virginia, suffered critical injuries while attempting a U-turn on the Peninsula Expressway. Police said Custer was driving a Chevrolet Corvette south of the Bear Creek drawbridge on the Peninsula Expressway. He stopped on the shoulder but as he attempted to make a u-turn a Chevrolet Tahoe struck his car on the driver side.

A passenger in Custer’s car suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No occupants of the Tahoe were injured, police said.

Custer died Thursday of his injuries at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team were continuing to investigate.
