Baltimore County Police K9 Axe died Wednesday after battling a sudden illness, Department officials announced Friday.
K9 Axe #3256 joined the department in April 2014 as an active duty member of the police force and K9 Unit. He specialized in explosives and firearm detection, guns and evidence in crime investigations, officials said. In July, Axe also passed his National Odor Recognition Testing (NORT).
Police officials said Axe will be missed and remembered not only as an asset to the department, but also as a cuddle buddy to his family, and an avid dock diver. Police did not specify the nature of Axe’s illness.
