Two area residents were killed and another was critically injured Tuesday in separate motorcycle accidents that occurred within an hour of each other, police said.

Kevin Dwayne Petty, 48, of the 1300 block of Hillcrest Street in Hampstead died from injuries he sustained when the motorcycle he was riding struck a guardrail support pole on Black Rock Road north of Falls Road at about 6:12 p.m., police said.

The second crash developed on the east side of the county sometime after 7 p.m., when a Volkswagen Jetta attempted to make a left turn onto Allender Road from Philadelphia Road, police said. A man and woman who were riding on a motorcycle struck the front of the Jetta’s passenger side, police said.

The adult male motorcyclist was in critical condition at an area hospital. The female passenger, identified as Ashley Lynn Simpson, 27, of Baltimore City, was pronounced dead at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, police said. They said the driver of the Jetta was unharmed and remained at the crash scene.
