A bull that roamed around West Baltimore Wednesday was captured by its owner with the help of employees of the Maryland Zoo yesterday evening, city police said.
Police began getting calls about a loose bull on North Avenue at about 3:10 p.m. They said the 1,600-pound steer was later seen in the area of Presbury and Warwick Avenues.
Students at Coppin State University used social media to express disbelief at seeing the bull running through the area.
“Students, staff and faculty stand by watching as the bull orchestrates a standoff with authorities,” said Coppin State University on its Twitter feed.
After running rampant on the street for more than two hours, the steer was caught and tranquilized by Maryland Zoo employees.
The owner of the half-ton animal was also located.
“The peaceful ending to the bull capture near Coppin State University,” WBAL news reporter Kai Reed said on Twitter. “I just spoke with the bull owner. He said the bull somehow kicked the truck-trailer back door open. He was emotional and grateful that no one was hurt.”
This is not the first time a steer was spotted on Baltimore City streets. Similar incidents occurred back in 2014 and 2016.
Campus activities eventually resumed back to normal.
Baltimore police reported no injuries.
