A 20-year-old Towson man has been charged with rape after a female Towson University student called campus police on Sunday to report the incident, police said.

The victim went to the suspect’s apartment around 3:30 p.m. to watch a movie. The suspect, identified as Onyekachukwu Chukwuebuk Igwilo of the 400 block of Towson Way, then began to make sexual advances towards her, police said.

Police said that when she declined, he held her down and raped her. Igwilo then blocked the victim from leaving before eventually letting her go, according to police.

Police said they detained Igwilo until an investigation yielded enough probable cause to make an arrest.

Igwilo has been charged with first-degree rape, attempted first-degree rape, false imprisonment, and first- and second-degree assault.

The victim also suffered a visible physical injury and was transported to a local hospital.

Igwilo is being held on no bail status pending a bail review hearing on Tuesday afternoon.
