The Baltimore County Council unanimously approved an $800,000 loan to help build two Home Depot warehouses at Tradepoint Atlantic in Sparrows Point.

Will Anderson, a director for economic development, told the council that the project will employ more than 250 people by 2020.

The area cleared for the new Home Depot warehouses is estimated at more than 1.5 million square feet of space. Sparrows Point, which was once a steel mill that declared bankruptcy and eventually closed, was purchased by a group that renamed the area Tradepoint Atlantic.

Anderson said the Maryland Department of Commerce granted the loan.

Both Councilmen Todd Crandell and Izzy Patoka voiced support for the project.

Tradepoint Atlantic is continuing to transform the area into a thriving business hub, officials said.

“We know by our agreement that all 250 jobs will be in place by 2020,” Anderson told the council.
