What this story covers
Seafood is an important industry throughout the world. As people become more aware of the impact that overfishing can have on the ecosystem, fishermen, supermarkets and restaurants are all doing their part to implement more sustainable practices.
Why it matters
Our love of seafood has led to unsustainable fishing practices, which threaten native fish populations. Implementing sustainable practices is the most important way to combat the harm being done by overfishing in the world’s oceans.
Sustainability is a buzzword. But what does it look like in practice? Three Towson University seniors explored this question in a five-part series (and three vlogs) about the seafood industry.
They began their journey by joining Maryland fishermen on the water. They visited a facility where fish are processed, cleaned and stored. They went to local grocery stores and seafood restaurants. And they had plenty of fun along the way.
