Baltimore City Police on Monday were investigating a shooting at a cookout in West Baltimore that left one person dead and injured seven others.

None of the victims has been identified.

Police said people had gathered outside Sunday for a cookout in the 2500 block of Edmondson Avenue, which intersects with Whitmore Avenue, when the shooting erupted shortly after 5 p.m. Police Commissioner Michael Harrison told The Baltimore Sun that police identified the shooter as a black man.

One person died at the scene and seven others were rushed to local hospitals. The injured victims were listed as males ages 58, 51, 30, 29 and 27. A 30-year-old female also was injured. All of the injuries were non-life-threatening, police said.

Homicide Detectives were investigating the incident.

Acting Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young asked residents to work with police to identify the shooter. Anyone with information should contact detectives at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7lockup.
