Two people were injured and two families of six people were displaced after an apartment fire early Thursday morning in the Wilkens area, according to police.
Fire crews were called to the 4300 block of Alan Drive in Baltimore at 6:26 a.m. for an apartment fire with rescue. The first responders found several people trapped from an upper-story windows.
Commanders called for a second alarm at 6:40 a.m. Firefighters aggressively attacked the fire and controlled it at 6:59 a.m.
The trapped residents were rescued from a rear bedroom window as the front of the apartment was filled with smoke.
Two young adult women were transported to the University of Maryland Medical Center. One suffered minor injuries and one sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries, according to officials.
Two cats died in the fire.
Baltimore County Police Department fire investigators concluded the fire started on a stovetop in an upper story, adding that the fire was accidental.
