A student at Patterson High School has been charged as an adult in connection with the stabbing of another student during a fight Monday afternoon, Baltimore City Police announced Wednesday.

Bernard Hopkins, 16, has been ordered to be held without bail, officials said.

Baltimore City officials said the fight took place inside a third-floor classroom at the high school. The injured student was immediately taken to the hospital with stab wounds in the left hip and right of his chest, while Baltimore City Police took Hopkins into custody. The stabbed student was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers said this is the second school stabbing in less than a week. A Baltimore City College student was stabbed near the school on Friday.

There has been no confirmation on whether a teacher was in the classroom at the time of the incident, police said.

“The school was placed on alert status to enable police to ensure the safety of all students and staff members,” the district said in a statement. “Providing safe, secure and positive climates for teaching and learning is City Schools’ top priority. Acts of violence will not be tolerated, and the student taken into custody will receive all appropriate consequences in accordance with both the district’s code of conduct and the law.”
