A hit-and-run crash killed a local child and critically injured a pregnant woman in Catonsville Friday night county police said.

According to police, the suspect vehicle was traveling southbound on North Rolling Road when it struck both pedestrians as they crossed at Johnnycake Road in an easterly direction. Police said the suspect vehicle made no attempt to stop but continued fleeing south on North Rolling Road.

The child, identified as Maria Popal, 12, was pronounced dead at Sinai Hospital, police said.

The woman, 32, was treated for life-threatening wounds but is in stable condition. The condition of her pregnancy remains unknown, police said.

According to police, the suspect vehicle has not yet been located. It has been described as an older model, possibly 1990-1991, Honda Accord that may be a darker colored vehicle. They said the vehicle should have damage to the front passenger side.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any information regarding this crash to contact police by calling 410-307-2020.

Anonymous tips can be sent to the Metro Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
