A mother and her young son were killed in a single-car crash in Woodlawn Thursday night, police said.

The accident, which occurred at 11:05 p.m., also left the woman’s 5-year-old daughter in critical condition, according to the police report.

None of the passengers were wearing seat belts or sitting in car seats, police said.

The mother, Tanja Tanesha Shields, 29, was driving her 9-year-old son, Khalil M. Wyche, and her daughter westbound on Gwynn Oak Avenue approaching Park Drive when she lost control of her 2017 Nissan Altima and crashed into a tree, causing the car to catch fire, police said.

Witnesses removed the family of three from the car. Shields and Wyche were pronounced dead at the hospital and the daughter remains in critical condition, police said.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team is actively working to uncover any additional factors possibly pertaining to the crash.
