A local man was charged with handgun and narcotics violations Wednesday after police recovered a 9mm handgun and marijuana from him at a city gas station, authorities said.

Carlton March II, 34, of the 700 block of Augusta Avenue, was being held at Central Booking without bail, police said.

March was arrested while police were conducting a check at the Shell Gas Station in the 4500 block of Edmondson Avenue after the department had received numerous drug complaints, police said.

Officers entered the gas station at approximately 7:30 p.m. and noticed a man sitting at a table holding a plastic bag, police said. They said the male tried to hide the bag once he saw the officer looking at him.

Police said they found the drugs and the gun after searching March, who was prohibited from possessing a firearm.
