A 17-year-old boy and a 27-year-old man were both being held by Baltimore City police Wednesday on separate murder charges.
Police arrested Mikayal Hendricks, 17, on Monday and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this month in North Baltimore. Hendricks is accused of shooting 73-year-old Lawrence Price during a traffic incident on Oct. 4 in the 4400 block of Liberty Heights Avenue.
Investigators speculated that Price was sitting inside a vehicle stopped at a red light when another vehicle pulled up and a passenger began to argue with him. A short time later, the passenger in the second vehicle fired several shots at Price as the car sped away. Investigators said they learned that Hendricks was the shooter.
Price apparently was taken to a local hospital where officers were called. He died a short time later from gunshot wounds to his body, police said.
Gregory Brown, 27, was being held at Central Booking without bail on first-degree murder charges and related weapons violations, police said.
Brown, described by police as homeless, is accused of stabbing 57-year-old Preston Merritt on Sunday in the 2900 block of Brighton Street. Merritt was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and later died.
Homicide detectives said that Brown is the stepson of Merritt. Apparently Brown and Merritt lived together but Merritt was asked to leave the home after a confrontation.
