A Baltimore police officer was fired after he was found intoxicated and slumped over in his running patrol car Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Police Officer Aaron Heilman was found in full uniform on the 700 block of Washington Boulevard at about 1:40 p.m., police said.

A police spokesperson said Heilman was transported to the Central District under suspicion of being under the influence.

After agreeing to take a breathalyzer, it was revealed that Heilman had a .22-blood alcohol concentration (BAC), police said.

The probationary officer was charged accordingly and suspended immediately.

Interim Police Commissioner Gary Tuggle fired him Wednesday, saying in a statement: “His actions represented a safety issue for himself and the community. I simply won’t tolerate it.”

Heilman was working an overtime crime suppression detail after having been off for two days. He began his shift three hours prior to being discovered by police.
