A Baltimore City woman was charged with first-degree child abuse after allegedly poisoning a 6-month-old girl who late died, police said.

Latayia Hutchins, 32, of 5400 Plainfield Avenue, was babysitting Indira Henderson, when she contacted police about the child struggling to breath on November 18, 2017, police said.

According the police, Hutchins contacted the mother of the child to ask permission to perform an enema because the child didn’t have a bowel movement in four days. As Hutchins performed the enema, the child began convulsing and was rushed to a local hospital where the child was pronounced dead, police said.

The autopsy report that was completed on March 30, 2018 showed that the cause of death was poisoning and the manner was homicide, police said.  The report showed that the lubricant Hutchins used for the enema had lidocaine, a numbing agent, causing the death of Henderson.

Henderson was arrested on April 12, 2018 and taken to central booking.
