A 73-year-old Baltimore man died hours after he was knocked from his wheelchair as he crossed diagonally a street in the 2900 block of Edmonson Avenue, the Baltimore Police Department said.

Percey Eberhart, 73, of the 4100 block of Woodridge Road, was struck at 10:59 a.m. Tuesday by a 2011 Nissan travelling east. The driver entered the intersection at Popular Grove when the accident occurred. Police described Eberhart as “alert and talking” when first responders arrived at the scene.

Police said Eberhart complained of chest and back pains and was rushed a local area hospital where physicians described him in “good” condition. Eberhart was talking to the hospital staff when he suddenly lost consciousness; he was pronounced dead at 1:41 p.m., police said.

Crash team detectives are investigating the accident.

In a separate incident, police were called to the 500 block of McMechen Street on Wednesday and discovered a 32-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds to the body. He was rushed to a local area hospital, where he died, police said.

The shooting death is under investigation.
