Baltimore County police arrested two individuals in connection with a reported armed carjacking in Essex Sunday evening.

Police said they responded to a reported armed carjacking incident at about 8 p.m. in the 1200block of Handsworth Place in Essex.

Police said that the victims told them that a man and a woman parked their car in front of the victims’ apartment complex, came up to their car, and threatened them with handguns.

The suspects told the victims to get out of the car, and they allowed the couple to remove their infant son and groceries from the vehicle, police said. The two suspects then stole the car and fled the scene, police said.

Police said that an officer responding to the call spotted the stolen car on Maryland Route 702 near Old Eastern Avenue in Baltimore and coordinated an aviation unit to track the car.

The stolen car struck another vehicle on the road near Philadelphia Road and Golden Ring in Baltimore, according to police.

The suspects left the car and attempted to run from police shortly after the collision, but were apprehended, police said. One suspect was injured while attempting to run from police and is being treated at a local hospital, police said. His information will be released once he is formally charged, police said.

Police identified the uninjured suspect as Marquis Shaquan Mitchell, 20, of the 5700 block of Daybreak Terrace in Baltimore. He is being charged with carjacking, two counts of armed robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, two counts of first-degree assault, resisting arrest, and theft, police said.

Mitchell is being held at the Baltimore County Department of Corrections on denied bail.
