Raekwon ThorntonPolice are searching for a 19-year-old man who is wanted in   the shooting death of a Maryland state lawmaker’s grandson, according to police and media reports.

House Majority Whip Talmadge Branch, D-Baltimore, used Twitter to thank family members and friends who had wished his family sympathy over the death of 22-year-old Tyrone Ray.

Ray suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body in the 4200 block of Nicholas Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 4, police said. He was transported to an area hospital where shortly after he was pronounced dead.

Police said they are searching for Raekwon Thornton on murder charges.

Thornton, 19, is a black male who is six feet, one inch tall and weighs about 140 pounds, police said. They said his last known address was the 3600 block of Elmely Avenue.

Branch told WBAL-TV last month that his grandson was a good kid who did odd jobs. The lawmaker was quoted by the television station saying that he was five hours away from Baltimore when he learned his grandson had been fatally shot.

Anyone who has any information on this case is asked to call 911 or detectives at 410-396-2100. Tips can be texted to 443-902-4824.
