A 35-year-old teacher at Northwest Academy of Health Sciences has been charged with sexual abuse of a 13-year-old female student, police said.

Chadwick Zamarron was charged with sexual abuse of a minor, perverted practice, second- and third- degree sexual offense and sex abuse by a person of authority, police said.

Baltimore County Police Department Crimes Against Children Unit detectives started an investigation last week after the student told her mother that she performed a sexual act on Zamarron, according to police.

The student told a social worker that the relationship began in January  after she had sent sexual messages to Zamarron through several social media sites, police said.

Police said the friendship involved verbal, sexual and electronic communication during school hours. Zamarron often wrote hall passes to excuse the student from her classes, police said.

During February and March, the relationship became physical involving kissing and sexual acts performed in Zamarron’s office and classroom, police said.

Zamarron is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bail, police said.
