A mother of three was arrested Tuesday and charged with second-degree child abuse and second-degree assault, police said.

Police said Rachel Marie Pietro was arrested after a video of her abusing her children went viral last week.

The video, taken in her home on 21220 Cool Breeze Drive in Middle River, shows Pietro repeatedly striking her 5-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl, police said.

Police said they were notified of the video by concerned citizens on March 16 and referred the case to the Crimes Against Children Unit, who placed the children under the control of social services the next day.

Pietro told investigators that she was angry and hoped the video would encourage her husband to take care of the kids, police said.

According to police, Pietro is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
