A man was arrested today after police say they received information that dog fighting was occurring at a home in West Baltimore.
Vernon Richards, 53, of 1821 W. Lanvale St., has been charged with firearms and animal cruelty charges, police said.
The Baltimore Police Department’s Animal Abuse Unit received information that dog fighting activity was occurring on his block, police said.
Detectives executed search and seizure warrants on Monday and found various paraphernalia related to dog fighting as well as three guns and two pit bulls, police said.
The vacant house next door to Richards showed evidence that the dog fighting was occurring there, police said.
Police said Richards is prohibited from possessing firearms due to his prior criminal record.
Richards is currently waiting to see a court commissioner at Central Booking, police said.
