Detectives have identified Derick F. Cromartie Jr. as the victim who was found dead at the scene of a stabbing in Catonsville late last month.

Police were called to a home in the 500 block of Academy Road on the morning of Nov. 23, where they found Cromartie Jr. and another adult female suffering from at least one stab wound, officials said. The unidentified female was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

Police spokeswoman Elise Armacost said Cromartie had been friends with the husband of the woman who was stabbed.

Cromartie’s cause of death is still unidentified, and autopsy results are pending, police said. Because there were no signs of trauma on Cromartie’s body, the ongoing investigation into his death will be done by the Violent Crimes Unit, police said.
